To Boldly Go...

This is my shrine to everything Star Trek, specifically for the shows The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager.

THE NEXT GENERATION

Favorite Characters: Commander William T Riker, Doctor Beverly Crusher, Chief Engineer Geordi La Forge and Leiutenant Commander Data Soong

Favorite Episodes: Data's Day, Descent parts I and II, The Mind's Eye and I, Borg

Character I relate to: Data Soong

Next Generation wasn't my favorite series in Star Trek, but it did introduce me into the universe of Star Trek, and for that it has a soft spot in my heart. I don't have a lot of the emotional attachment to it compared to Voyager or DS9, but Geordi and Data will always remain with me as a love story that didn't need to be realized or have an episode about.

DEEP SPACE NINE

Favorite characters: Captain Benjamin Sisko, Leiutenant Commander Dax, Commander Worf, Garak, Chief Medical Officer Julian, Chief Engineer Miles O'Brein and Major Kira. Basically the entire cast.

Favorite Episodes: The Wire, Our Man Bashir, Far Beyond the Stars (!!)

Character I relate to: Captain Benjamin Sisko

I do wish there was more explicit LGBT content in Deep Space Nine. Out of the three Star Trek shows airing in the 90s, DS9 always had an edge in creating storylines with gay and transgender undertones, with The Wire coming into mind. I understand the time period meant adding explicitly gay or transgender characters was a risk, but looking back, it was a risk worth taking since we now live in a time of increased homophobia and extreme transphobia.

VOYAGER

Favorite Characters: Emergency Medical Hologram, Leiutenant Commander Tuvok, Captain Katherine Janeway, Chief Engineer B'Elanna Torres and Ensign Harry Kim

Favorite Episodes: Equinox I and II, Night, The Killing Game I and II and Fair Haven

Character I relate to: Leiutenant Commander Tuvok

I really wasn't sure about this series going into it, but I got myself to watch it and instantly fell in love with Janeway and the EMH. It's a shame Neelix and Tuvok were the show's Quark and Odo, because their relationship was nowhere near as adviserial as the latter two. I saw them as friends who got off on the wrong foot becuse they had two very distinct and different ways of communicating. As the show went on, I loved how they managed to not overcome that difference, but grow to respect it.
